Earn Welding Merit Badge
Now Scouts 12 and older can earn a Welding Merit Badge in a three hour course that is taught by a certified welder. Each Merit Badge class is limited to 6 Scouts and there are three Merit Badge counselors present during the welding workshop.

When: The second Sunday of every month from July 13, 2014 thru December 14, 2014
Session 1: 12:00pm—3:00pm — limited to 6 scouts
Session 2: 3:00pm — 6:00pm — limited to 6 scouts
Where: TechShop, 192 Bakery Square Boulevard, Pittsburgh, PA 15206 — Located in the East Liberty neighborhood near Google. Free (up to 3 hours) parking is available in the garage. Parents will not be able to participate.
Cost: $25.00 per Scout. Cancelation policy — Scouts may cancel up to four weeks prior to the class and obtain a full refund. After that, due to the unique nature and limited size of this program, if they can’t make the class, the Scout will need to find a replacement for himself in order to obtain a refund. Needs based scholarships are available. If you require a needs based scholarship, please register for the Merit Badge, and send an email to Alanha Bell (alahna.bell@scouting.org) in confidence. Please include a short explanation of your situation and how much you can afford to contribute toward the cost. The S.T.E.M. Committee is committed that all Scouts regardless of ability to pay should be able to participate in this program.
Scouts should register individually, but they must bring a Blue Card signed by their Scoutmaster

Prerequisites: Scouts MUST purchase and read the Welding Merit Badge Pamphlet prior to attending the class. Scouts should also bring it to the class.
Parents must download and complete TechShop’s “Waiver and Release of Liability for Minors” and email a scanned copy of it to STEM@LHC-BSA.org at least one week prior to the class. If you do not have the ability to scan a document, you can also fax a copy of it to 412-386-3200. Please DO NOT submit this form in any other manner. You will receive an acknowledgement that it has been received
Safety: Scouts must wear long pants that are NOT made from synthetic materials that will melt. Scouts should wear blue jeans, socks, and closed toe shoes. They should make sure that no skin is showing on your feet / ankles / or legs. Scouts MUST wear a class “A” BSA Uniform shirt to attend the class. A neckerchief is not necessary.
Scouts will be provided with all safety equipment including helmets, welding jackets, and gloves. Scouts who do not master the welding requirements will have the opportunity to do so at another time but not the same day as the class.
